About
Material Bench is a small independent editorial project about the materials used to repair and restore teeth. We explain how a filling or crown behaves by looking at its composition and the way it becomes part of a tooth.
We exist because familiar dental terms can hide meaningful differences. A white restoration might be a resin containing glass particles or a ceramic made almost entirely of crystals, and that difference affects how it is bonded and repaired.
We work through one material question at a time, defining technical terms and connecting physical properties to everyday situations. Our articles distinguish general explanations from decisions that depend on an examination by a qualified dentist. We publish editorial information and do not offer treatment or sell materials.
